Milagros Peña is Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology and Ethnic Studies at the University of California Riverside. She received her doctorate in Sociology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her first book Theologies and Liberation in Peru: The Role of Ideas in Social Movements was published with Temple University Press in 1995. Peña also is the author of Latina Activists Across Borders: Grassroots Women’s Organizing in Mexico and Texas (Duke University Press, 2007), supported by a Fulbright-Hays/Garcia Robles Research Award. The book was awarded the 2008 Distinguished Book Award by the Latino/a section of the American Sociological Association. She is also author or co-author of three additional books and over forty journal articles, book chapters, and reports. She is past chair of the American Sociological Association’s Latino/a Section and previously served on the Executive Councils of Association for the Sociology of Religion, Society for the Scientific Study of Religion, and the American Sociological Association’s Religion Section.
