HTI began the internship program in 2018 with a grant provided by the Lilly Endowment Inc. These paid internships give HTI pre-dissertation scholars the opportunity to develop leadership skills beyond academia while providing Hispanic-led and serving institutions additional capacity to expand their initiatives. Through these mutually beneficial internships, HTI Scholars gain more leadership and networking opportunities and institutions grow their capacity during the internship period.
Institutions and interns benefit from this program in several ways. For institutions, benefits include choosing an applicant from HTI’s pipeline of Latinx scholars, increasing their capacity through the work of HTI’s intern, and being featured on HTI’s digital platforms. Interns benefit from this program by receiving a stipend from HTI, expanding their network of scholars and/or administrators, and honing their leadership skills as well as their professional and academic work experience. If your organization is interested in participating in the HTI’s Internship program, please fill out the questionnaire found here.
