Field of Study: Church History

Peter Anthony Mena is an Assistant Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego. His teaching and research interests focus on the history of Christianity in Late Antiquity. In particular, he has been interested in: constructions of orthodoxy and heresy; gender, sexuality, and the body; and literary conceptions of space in late ancient Christian hagiography. His work utilizes critical theories of interpretation—especially queer, feminist, decolonial, Latinx, and Chicanx methodologies. At the University of San Diego he teaches courses on early Christianity, Latinx Catholic Theologies, and Religious Identities in the U.S.
