Dr. Lauren Frances Guerra grew up in the heart of Los Angeles, California. She is of Guatemalan-Ecuadorian descent and an active member of the Roman Catholic Church. She completed both her BA in Theological Studies and BA in Spanish Language at Loyola Marymount University in 2004. She began her graduate studies in Theology at the Graduate Theological Union completing an MA in Theology. Dr. Guerra’s love of literature led her to Madrid, Spain where she completed an MA in Spanish Literature at Saint Louis University in 2008. In 2016, she earned her doctorate in Systematic and Philosophical Theology from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. She is currently serving as a lecturer at UCLA in the Department of Chicana/o Studies. As a Systematic Theologian, she approaches the theological task with the complexities of race, class, and gender in mind. Popular Religion and community-based art inform her theologizing. Teaching and research combine all of those things that are most important to her including faith, culture, and justice. Her current research interests include Pneumatology, U.S. Latine theology, and Theological Aesthetics. Her long-term goal is to serve as an advocate for the U.S. Latine community through her theological work.
