Rev. Dr. José Francisco Morales Torres (Ph.D. Comparative Theology and Philosophy, Claremont School of Theology) is the Assistant Professor of Latinx Studies at Chicago Theological Seminary. Prior to coming to CTS, he was the Assistant Professor of Historical and Comparative Theology at Claremont School of Theology.
An ordained minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he served previously as the Executive Regional Minister of the Central Rocky Mountain Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Prior to this, he was the Associate Pastor at Iglesia del Pueblo-Hope Center (now named Hope Christian Church), a multicultural Disciples of Christ congregation in Hammond, Indiana. His ministry experience is board, including wider denominational work, congregational, advocacy/ community organizing, non-profit, scholarship and educational. He has taught for Claremont School of Theology, Lexington Theological Seminary, and McCormick Theological Seminary.
José holds degrees from Judson University (B.A.) in Elgin, Illinois, and McCormick Theological Seminary (M.Div.) in Chicago. He is married to Rev. Daphne Marie Gascot Arias, an ordained Disciple minister, currently serving as the Senior Minister of Downey Memorial Christian Church in Downey, CA. In October 2015, they welcomed their first child, Daphne Magnolia, into this world.
