Biography:
Jibreel was born in New Jersey to Puerto Rican parents. His undergraduate education was in creative writing and American studies. Graduate studies in Middle Eastern, Arabic, and Islamic studies have taken him to Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, where he has performed research and presented at international conferences. His current interests are in sociocultural and international history concerning key regional focal points in the Americas, the Iberian Peninsula, and the Middle East/North and West Africa, and concentrating on decolonial cultural strategies in religion and the arts (literature, cinema, and music) throughout the long twentieth century.
