Dr. Horacio Vela teaches at the University of the Incarnate Word, a Catholic Hispanic-Serving institution in San Antonio. Texas. Born and raised in the border town of Laredo, Texas, he received a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MAR from Yale Divinity School. He holds a PhD in Theology (Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity) from the University of Notre Dame. His research and teaching interests include early Jewish and Christian history and literature, Latine theologies and religions, Indigenous Studies, and the Virgin of Guadalupe tradition. Dr. Vela currently serves as a member at large of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACHTUS).
