Geoffrey Nelson-Blake is a Mexican-American scholar whose academic interests were formed and transformed by his time as a practitioner, both as a Seventh-day Adventist pastor and faith-based community organizer. Dr. Nelson-Blake received his Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and an M.Div. from Andrews University. His dissertation is titled: “Disorganizing Hope: A Study of Seventh-day Adventists, Faith-based Community Organizing, and Eschatologically Driven Mission.” At the GTU, he was awarded a Newhall Teaching Fellowship to teach a course he designed as a dialogue between Mission Studies and Decolonial Studies. Also at the GTU, his paper won the prestigious annual Chan Essay Contest. Dr. Nelson-Blake has written broadly for the Academy, the Church, and the public sphere, including co-authoring an essay on sabbath practice for the Washington Post. He is currently working on a book chapter for a forthcoming book from Westminster John Knox Press on Latine Lived Theology.
