Biography:
Evelmyn Ivens was born in Mexico and immigrated to Pasadena, California, as a teenager. She identifies as a 1.5-generation immigrant who lives in a constant tension of in-betweenness. Ivens is interested in exploring cultural practices that can provide a creative lens for thinking through theology. Her research focuses on hospitality and commensality practices, their theological, ecological, and ethical implications, in addition to the role of women in these spaces, and how these practices can challenge dominant theological and sociocultural narratives. Ivens is passionate about teaching, learning, and addressing the lack of access to theological education for underrepresented groups.
