Originally from Colombia, Carlos A. Garcia Alalyon studied Economics at Columbia University before discovering his passion for Scripture while serving in campus ministry through the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) in California. He decided to pursue a Masters’ degree in Biblical Studies at the University of Notre Dame and loved it so much he stayed for the PhD. His current research interests include biblical cosmology, concepts of heaven and heavenly liturgy in the ancient world, and the intersection of material culture and interpretation. He is very interested in the symbiotic relationship between the Bible and Liturgy, especially in how each is formed and influenced by the other. Garcia Alayon has also published on Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Bible, showing how the Guadalupan tradition was rooted in the Bible from early on.
