Caran Ware Joseph

Caran Ware Joseph earned a B.A. in Political Science from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and a J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School (Ann Arbor). After practicing labor and employment law in Chicago, she eventually answered part of her call to ministry. She attended Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (Evanston, IL), where she received her Master of Arts in Music Ministry degree. After serving in various capacities in secular and church leadership, in June of 2012, she graduated from the Iliff School of Theology where she earned a Master of Divinity, with distinction, and a certificate in Justice and Peace.

After serving as Director of Children, Youth, and Young Adults at Christ Church United Methodist in Denver, she returned to Iliff where she now is their Chief Operating Officer, Acting Human Resources Director, and Title VI and Title IX Coordinator. In this role, opportunities continue to abound. Among them, Caran serves as the Program Director for the Congregational Connections Program (funded by Lilly Foundation Pathways for Tomorrow Initiative grant). She has also taught the following courses as an adjunct faculty  member for Iliff: 

  • Identity, Power, and Difference
  • Vocation and Orientation
  • Hate Crimes & the Law
  • The School-to-Prison Pipeline

In her leisure time, Caran enjoys listening to music, writing, reading, developing new projects, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
