Biography:

Jeffrey Bamaca was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles to immigrant parents from Veracruz, Mexico. Although initially drawn to vocational ministry while earning a degree in pastoral studies from Vanguard University, his encounter with the academic study of the New Testament broadened his focus and interests, leading him to pursue graduate studies. His research now bridges the ancient world and the present, focusing on the Gospels (especially the Gospel of John) and critically examining enslavement, not just as a historical reality but also as a phenomenon with modern resonances. Through his work in New Testament criticism and reception history, Bamaca is committed to uncovering and elevating the narratives of those who have been historically marginalized and challenging contemporary forms of injustice. Moreover, as a first-generation college graduate and son of immigrant parents, Bamaca is committed to serving the Latine migrant community by working towards providing educational pathways and theological education.
