Job Summary
With support from the Lilly Endowment’s Pathways for Tomorrow Initiative, The Center for the Arc of Ministry at Austin Seminary will elevate and integrate vocational discernment for emerging and current church leaders and pastors. Through the Center for the Arc of Ministry, high school and college students will engage in vocational exploration through experiential and cohort-based learning. The Center will create a multidirectional pathway of leaders formed in theological thought and called to Christian service in pastoral ministry, other related church leadership roles, and a variety of vocations shaped by faith. The Executive Director of the Arc of Ministry Center is responsible for the Center’s overall strategic planning and daily operations, ensuring the effective implementation of programs managed by the Center, its institutional partners, and program participants. This role involves comprehensive oversight of programming, staff management, financial stewardship, and grant compliance, while fostering strong community and Seminary relationships. This is a 5-year contract position with the potential for extension, subject to funding. This position reports to the President.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Operational Management:
Oversee the daily operations of the Center, ensuring all programmatic goals are pursued and met according to grant specifications. Develop and implement policies and procedures to promote efficient operations.
Program Development & Oversight:
Develop, coordinate, and implement a variety of programs and activities that meet the needs and interests of the Center’s partners and participants, aligning this work with the Seminary’s mission. Regularly evaluate program effectiveness through formal methods and make adjustments as necessary.
Staff Leadership & Supervision:
Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of all staff and volunteers following established Seminary HR practices. Offer ongoing professional development, address conflicts, and cultivate a positive, collaborative work environment.
Financial Management:
Oversee the Center’s budget, participate in fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Seminary’s Office of Advancement, and explore and pursue grant opportunities to maintain financial stability and support the center’s activities.
Compliance & Administration:
Ensure full adherence to all Seminary regulations, as well as applicable state and federal laws and licensing standards. Keep precise records of program participation, staff, and financial activities. Maintain safeguarding and a culture of safety for participants who are minors.
Community Engagement:
Serve as the primary liaison to Lilly Endowment Inc., educational partners, and program participants. In coordination with the Seminary’s marketing and communications office, promote the Center’s services through outreach, marketing, and public relations efforts to maintain and grow participation.
Qualifications Education:
A minimum of a master’s degree in theology is required, with strong knowledge of pastoral leadership and congregational ministry. Doctoral degree (D.Min., PhD, ThD) in theology preferred.
Experience:
Prior experience in a management or leadership position within a center or similar environment.

This is an on-campus position in Harrisonburg, Virginia with multiple teaching modalities, including a hyflex teaching format that incorporates on-campus students and online students.
PhD or PsyD with emphasis in trauma studies, including expertise in systemic oppression, racism and/or colonialism. Some theological study at the graduate level required. Some peace and conflict studies or related social sciences studies at the graduate level required. Graduate-level teaching experience and experience in ministry practice preferred. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of instructor.

Assistant Director for Faith Formation and Spiritual Accompaniment (Job #503305)
Leads the Faith Formation and Spiritual Accompaniment (East) team to engage students in evangelization, faith formation, and spiritual growth opportunities and provides pastoral care and crisis response. Expressing an enthusiasm for the Catholic faith, the minister invites students to deepen and embody this faith as disciples of Christ. Cultivates a sense of belonging with a sensitivity to religious diversity and ecumenism.
Serves on the Faith Formation and Spiritual Accompaniment leadership team to ensure a holistic approach that prioritizes relational ministry, student leadership, and faith belonging across the student experience. Directly supervises two full-time campus ministers and leads a collaborative team of five. Has specific responsibility for ministerial connection to students and staff living in Marianist Hall (NOT a live in role). Coordinates and supports department pilgrimages and retreats.
Full-time, 12 month exempt positions with full benefits and a July 1, 2026 (or sooner) start date. Salary commensurate with education and experience. The successful candidate will develop and teach introductory graduate theology courses to prospective students who are discerning applications to the Notre Dame MA and MDiv degrees. The successful candidate will be a creative and entrepreneurial pedagogue, willing to work with national and ecclesial partners to envision and build pipelines of ministry students who will study at Notre Dame and be placed upon graduation where the church is growing and in need. In addition to teaching, this position participates in the recruitment, admission, formation, and placement of future ministers trained by the Notre Dame MA and MDiv programs. The candidate can be a member of any theological subfield, but should excel in teaching major Catholic theological topics, scriptural exegesis for ministry, and theology of ministry. Responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring prospective master’s level students who will be applying to Notre Dame’s MA and MDiv degree programs, involvement with the recruitment and discernment efforts of both programs, and working with applicants, admissions, and placement. A PhD or equivalent in any theological subfield, along with either an MDiv or significant pastoral experience, is required. Spanish language proficiency is preferred. The starting date for this position will be July 1, 2026. The initial appointment is renewable annually, pending availability of funding.
