Description of PhD Program
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD): Religion program prepares teacher-scholars in focused theological fields of study, primarily for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in its institutions of higher learning around the world. It consists of 64 credits. Concentration for the PhD is in one area with a cognate. The Doctor of Theology (ThD) is also 64 credits and is an interdisciplinary degree between two areas of concentration with a cognate.

Starting Fall 2013, a tuition-reduction scholarship based on GRE or GMAT scores is available to new doctoral students (up to 50% on the first 48 credits, based on GRE scores). Graduate assistantships may be available through the office of your academic program. Assistantships are processed through the Office of Employment. You may request an application from the respective dean or department chair.

Institute of Hispanic Ministry
Responds to the growing needs of Hispanic congregations in North America and beyond. The tasks of the IHM include providing graduate-level study for Hispanic pastors both on and off campus and assisting in various ways a continuing education for Hispanic ministers. It coordinate the Hispanic M.A. in Pastoral Ministry and supports Hispanic courses in the M.Div. and D.Min. programs. The IHM also provides support systems for Hispanic Ministry and churches that are in transition culturally and linguistically. It encourages research and the dissemination of its findings for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at large.
Doctor of Ministry, Pastoral Ministry (Spanish)
To develop ministry professionals who manifest spiritual/theological depth, advanced competency, academic excellence, professional leadership skills, and the ability for self-reflection necessary for exceptional service in pastoral or organizational ministry leadership within the unique context of Spanish language and cultural settings.
Library Resources-Special Collections
Center for Adventist Studies houses a collection of materials relating to Seventh-day Adventist history dating back to the mid-1800’s along with biblical and theological writings of Adventist authors.
The James White Library contains more than 1,000,000 records including the Seminary Library that serves the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University.
